What is breathwork?

In breathwork, a good place to start is your awareness of your breath. When you come to me, this is where we will begin.

There are many forms of breathwork and the type of breathwork that I offer is called conscious connected breathwork (CCB), which has its modern day roots in the work of the psychiatrist Stanislav Grov from the 1970s. People have also known how to work with the power of the breath for thousands of years, and it connects our body, mind and nervous system.

The breathwork I offer is open to people with different life experiences, backgrounds and intentions, and I am especially welcoming of those in grief as this is my specialism. In grief, our breath often changes, such as holding the breath without realising, and some traditions even associated the lungs with grief.

I trained with Steph Magenta who is the founder of Seven Directions®, an accredited breathwork school with a particular emphasis on ethical practice. I am listed by the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance which sets the global ethical standard for breathwork. Breathwork changed my life and it is a privilege to do this work.

You may choose to book one or multiple breathwork sessions. As a first step, please book a free call below so we can discuss what you need or fill out the contact form. It would be my pleasure to welcome you.

How it works

"Veronica offers a level of presence, attunement and emotional accompaniment unlike anything I have ever experienced." - Alys, Psychotherapist

What makes conscious connected breathwork (CCB) different to everyday breathing is a technique. Day-to-day, our breath goes in and out without us even thinking, and naturally pauses between the inhale and exhale. In CCB, you bring your awareness to your breath and change the rhythm to a continuous, connected breath pattern for a limited period, closing the pause between the inhale and the exhale. As you breathe in this way, you create temporary changes in your body, and shifts in your brain activity. This allows you to journey deep into your inner landscape and uncover what's real and true for you. This isn't about trying to fix something or reach a destination, but simply connecting with what is truly here.

Breathwork opens a doorway to self-awareness and creates a safe way to feel your emotions so they don't overwhelm you. As Francis Weller says, we empty the well of water so that it doesn't overflow. The breath also becomes a teacher: guiding you to greater spaciousness and self-compassion, and helping you to keep your heart open to life and love. Breathwork does not get rid of what's happened in our lives, but gifts us the opportunity to re-learn our relationship to what we carry, and how we can choose to live from here.

At the end of the breathwork, your brain activity returns to normal, your nervous system regulates, and you integrate the experience into new connectedness, clarity or perspectives. We're working with the profound intelligence of the breath and body which means that every journey is unique. I encourage you to come with curiosity and an open heart - the breath is the medicine that will guide you.

Breathwork is an unregulated profession and it is very important that you find a practitioner who you feel safe with. Some breathwork practitioners take people into a very intense place and that is not how I work. I find the gentler breathworks are often the most profound because it's in this softer space that we can actually stay with ourselves.

You can expect me to show you how to adapt the technique depending on how you are in each moment, and to guide you to learn how to pace your breathwork in a way that feels right for you. You get to choose how far you go and I will be with you every step of the way.

Please note, there are several contraindications that apply to breathwork due to the temporary physical changes that breathwork creates in the body. If you are with any of these contraindications and want to practice breathwork, please check with your doctor or get in touch so that we can explore whether you can safely practice:

High blood pressure

Very low blood pressure with fainting
